I think the Renaissance was the most romantic time in history. Ah, if I could have only lived then, however I would still want to have my glue gun and microwave! I love making queen themed art. I have purchased queenly items for my own décor as I find them inspiring. Queens are more than ordinary! I am doing a series of 10 x 10 mixed media collages with a Queenly theme. I have the plan to someday make a calendar, so I need 12 of them eventually. I collect faces from advertising in glossy magazines and catalogs. I found a wig catalog that has a variety of sizes of faces which has made my journey go faster. YAY!
Each Queen needs a theme. Sometimes it’s silly like the “Queen of Foodies” at the top or “Queen of Survival”. Most of my art is purchased as gifts, so the “Foodie” would make a fun gift for the gourmet in your life. “Queen of Survival” is for the friend or family member who has come through a difficult journey. I had so much fun using up almost all of my clear rhinestones on her crown.
“Queen of Humor” makes me smile every time I look at it. Her crown was a collage of little images stacked next to each other to make her sassy and whimsical. I inserted the Chihuahua imagining he was on a trampoline trying to get into the picture. Her movable earrings add to the whimsy.
This little cute dog is giving some wise advice. I hope these mixed media collages inspire you to take advantage of advertising images. Tear out pages of magazines after you have read it. Keep stacks of faces, dogs, flowers, anything that inspires you. Play!
