Queen of Patience

“Queen of Patience” Mixed Media 16″ Art Doll

Isn’t she fun?  The “Queen of Patience” required a little patience to make! I had a jar filled with a variety of ephemera given to me by Charolette one of the owners of Luminary Arts Gallery in Astoria, Oregon.  She told me “make something” and this little darling art doll was the result and she will be part of the collection for my “Featured Artist” show in November.

Patience is #3 in the Ten Virtues for the Modern Age, the underlying theme for my show titled “When Queens Dance”.  I wanted to showcase “queens” but didn’t want it too repetitive and predictable.  “Queen of Patience” is one of two art dolls I am making for the show.

I started with the skirt frame.  It is pretty easy to make if you have the right base to work from.  I got this vase at Ross and it works!  I start with the vertical ribs and tape them down so they don’t move while I wrap thinner wire horizontally. Pretty easy!Solder the intersections and you have the skirt!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI hot glued buttons on the bottom rung, and little blank charms on the top rung with words on each one describing a patient person.  The middle rung was very fun to fill up with the colorful stuff plus the watches that Charolette gave me.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI added paper clay arms to the decorated altoid can and printed out “she will wait for you” with a vintage watch to represent her heart.

I hope to finish all the pieces for my Featured Artist Show this weekend so I can focus on my Christmas projects!  Have a Happy Weekend!
