Washi Tape Wreath

I might have to admit I have a washi tape addiction!  I have so many containers of those darling little rolls of tape that it dawned on me I could never use it up at the rate I am going.

I had a 10″ macramé ring sitting around and I wondered if I could polish off some rolls of washi tape making a wreath.

I started by cutting a 6″ piece of double stick tape and attaching it to my ruler.

The right side of the washi tape doesn’t stick to the double stick tape!  Lay down a 6 inch strip of washi tape RIGHT SIDE DOWN so the sticky side is up on the double stick tape.

Now lay another 6″ piece of washi tape onto the ruler so the washi tape adheres to itself.  This time lay the washi tape with the sticky side down.

Then remove the two pieces of washi tape and trim ends so they are not ragged.

Next fold the pieces in half making them “fan” a bit.  Don’t make them fold exactly in half.

Slide each piece on a macramé or wreath form ring and place one staple as close the the ring as you can get it.

Repeat around the ring until all the ring is covered.  Take a piece of poster board and cut a circle to make a back lining.  Cut some cord or wire for a hanger and attach to the back lining.

I just rubbed the poster board on the macramé ring to get the imprint of the ring transferred so I could see it well, then I cut about 1/4″ inside from the imprint and    1 1/2″ deep.  Use hot glue to attach the ring to the washi tape.  TIP: washi tape sometimes rejects adhesive on the outside surface.  I made sure each staple had some hot glue and that would be a sturdy glue weld.

Finally have fun making a washi tape flower if you like!  I used four washi tape rolls and it took about 2 hours to put the wreath together.
